Preparing for a new goal… whether it’s a new workout plan, new job commitment, or new school routine… requires a VISION. Without a vision, it is impossible to know where you are going. When we begin with the end in mind, we must begin with a clear picture of what the end looks like.
The problem, however, most often can be discovering what the vision is.
And often when we need a fresh vision the most, is when we are bogged down in the stress of life. The times when we desperately need a fresh vision, or clear picture of a future goal, is usually at the same time when life is simply too overwhelming to think clearly.
Yet, without that vision, the stress and pressures of life continually pull us away from the right path. Proverbs 29:18 states, “Where there is no vision, the people perish; but happy is he who keeps the teaching.”
So when you are struggling, overwhelmed, pressured with ongoing stress, reminded of the pile of past failures… how do you discover a fresh vision for your future?
3 Steps to Pinpoint a Fresh Vision
- Get some fresh air. This could be as simple as taking a walk, surrounded in nature and literally breathing in fresh air while feeling the sun shine on your skin. Or, you may need to schedule a weekend away from the realities of life, and give yourself a chance to… breathe.
- Listen to a fresh perspective. I LOVE teachers! Teachers of life, teachers of the Bible, teachers of finance, teachers of health and fitness, learning from friends, learning from my mom or aunts or the cashier at the grocery store. Every single person has something to offer. Their stories. Their history. Their experiences. What they have learned, is knowledge that can be passed on to anyone who will listen. Be the one who listens. Find some inspirational podcasts. Read the Bible. Sit and pray. Simply listen to some POWER THOUGHTS instead of replaying your problems in your mind again and again. For a fresh vision, you need a fresh perspective!
- Make a fresh choice. “What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.” You’ve heard that before, right? Sometimes for a fresh vision, we need to choose a fresh path. A fresh way of doing things triggers something within our minds to stay committed to the choice. Make the choice to do something towards the vision, and then stay committed to that thing. One simple step at a time, we climb towards that vision!
The thing to remember with a vision for the future, is to be both diligent in working towards the goal, and patient in perseverance. When we cling on to our vision in the trials and events that will inevitably work against us, the vision it what helps us persevere. The vision is the reward that we stay focused on. The vision is the picture of what we work towards, and when we trust that eventually we will arrive there, it is the key that keeps us going.
